Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, affects about one in five people. It causes nasal symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, stuffiness and post-nasal drainage. You may also have itchy or watery eyes, a headache, and/or cough. Hay fever is caused by an allergic response to indoor or outdoor airborne allergens, including pollen, dust mites, mold or pet dander. Some people have hay fever year-round, while others get worse at certain times of the year.
