Chronic Cough

A chronic cough is usually defined as a cough that lasts for eight weeks or longer. The most common causes of chronic cough are postnasal drip, asthma, and acid reflux. These three causes are responsible for up to 90 percent of all cases. Less common causes include infections, medications and lung diseases. Based upon your symptoms and examination, your allergist may recommend a trial of treatment before testing is performed.
